Benin City, 17/11/2024 — The Edo State Government has taken a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Governor Godwin Obaseki for failing to complete the 7.5-kilometer Temboga Road project during their administration.
In a press statement issued by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, the government accused the PDP of neglecting critical infrastructure projects and leaving them unfinished. The statement also targeted Chris Nehikhare, a factional publicity secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee, labeling his comments on the matter as an attempt to distract from the party’s shortcomings.
“The PDP-led administration failed, for over a year, to complete a mere 7.5km road. This underscores one of the many failures of the Obaseki-led administration,” the statement read.
It further alleged that the PDP is scrambling to reclaim relevance in the state, particularly as Governor Okpebholo accelerates efforts to complete projects that were either abandoned or poorly executed by the previous administration.
The Governor’s office emphasized that Okpebholo remains committed to working for the people of Edo State. “Governor Okpebholo will not be distracted by retired politicians chasing clout or suffering from Post-Election Traumatic Disorder,” the statement added, highlighting his administration’s focus on delivering infrastructure and creating economic opportunities.
The statement marks the latest exchange in an ongoing political rivalry between the Edo State Government and factions of the PDP, with the completion of public projects becoming a central talking point in their debate over governance.
