Benin City – November 18, 2024
The Edo State Government has announced the immediate suspension of all consultancy services and related providers within the state’s public service.
Governor Monday Okpebholo approved the directive as part of efforts to evaluate and streamline financial and operational processes in the public sector.
In a notice issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor, all financial transactions and engagements with consultants and service providers affected by this suspension are to be halted pending the outcome of a comprehensive review.
“The Review Committee established by His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, will assess the current consultancy arrangements. Until the committee submits its report, all transactions with affected parties are to be put on hold immediately,” the notice stated.
The directive also mandates strict compliance by Accounting Officers and Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) across the state.
This move is seen as part of Governor Okpebholo’s broader strategy to enhance fiscal discipline and transparency in Edo State’s governance framework.
Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, emphasized the importance of adhering to the directive, noting that the suspension aligns with the administration’s commitment to ensuring efficiency and accountability in public service delivery.
Observers and stakeholders await the findings of the Review Committee, which are expected to provide recommendations for improving the state’s consultancy practices and optimizing resource utilization.
