In a decisive move, Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has ordered an immediate and indefinite suspension of all revenue collection activities across the state, particularly targeting motor parks and similar locations. The directive, issued just a day after Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, were sworn in, reflects the administration’s focus on restructuring state finances and addressing alleged irregularities in revenue processes.
Governor Okpebholo’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, confirmed the suspension in an official statement on Wednesday. The governor also directed the state’s Commissioner of Police to arrest anyone who attempts to defy the order, underlining a strict stance on enforcement.
“The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of all revenue collections in Edo, especially in motor parks and similar areas, until further notice,” the statement read. It further clarified that this suspension would continue until the governor reviews the structure of revenue collection within the state and determines the appropriate way forward.
The governor cautioned that individuals found collecting revenue on behalf of the government will be subject to arrest, emphasizing that no revenue collection activities are currently sanctioned by the administration.
Okpebholo’s office indicated that he plans to soon address concerns surrounding revenue collection and will issue new directives once a comprehensive review is completed.
