Former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lieutenant-General Faruk Yahaya, has taken legal steps to challenge what he described as defamatory claims accusing him of involvement in terrorism financing.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by a former Army spokesman, retired Brigadier-General Sani Usman.
According to the statement, the allegations were made by retired Major-General Danjuma Ali-Keffi during a broadcast interview. Usman said Yahaya, through his legal team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mohammed Ndayako, has served formal demand notices on the individuals and media organisations involved.
He explained that the notices, dated December 17, 2025, gave the concerned parties 72 hours to withdraw the allegations, issue unconditional public apologies and desist from further publication of the claims.
The notices warned that failure to comply would result in legal action.
“False and malicious allegations of this nature are dangerous and capable of eroding public confidence in national institutions and in individuals who have served the country with distinction,” the notice stated.
Usman added that Yahaya said the legal action was aimed not only at safeguarding his personal integrity but also at defending professionalism, truth and accountability, stressing that deliberate falsehoods would not be allowed to go unchallenged.
