A powerful explosion struck the Secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Rivers State in the early hours of Monday, causing significant damage to the party’s office in the GRA area of Port Harcourt. The blast, which is believed to have been caused by a detonated dynamite, occurred around 1 a.m., sending shockwaves through the area and leaving the building in ruins.
The explosion, which shattered windows, doors, and other property within the secretariat, also caused extensive damage to the building’s ceiling and fittings. Although the perpetrators of the attack have not yet been identified, there is speculation that the incident may be linked to ongoing political tensions within the state.
Sources suggest that the attack could be politically motivated, possibly connected to the leadership crisis currently affecting the state’s political landscape. There have been rumors that Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara may be planning to defect to the APP, along with his supporters, due to alleged interference in the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.
The explosion has heightened tensions within the party, with members calling for a thorough investigation to uncover the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
