
The late former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, who passed away on December 27, 2023, in Germany after battling prostate cancer, will be laid to rest in his hometown of Owo on February 23, 2024, according to a statement released by the family on Monday.
Rotimi Akeredolu Jnr., the son of the deceased, conveyed the funeral details in a statement titled ‘Celebration of a remarkable life,’ which was shared on the Facebook page of the late Akeredolu’s Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde. Olatunde also confirmed the announcement during a telephone conversation.
The funeral program, spanning over a week, will include a service of songs, commendation services, special court sessions, a candlelight procession, and a world gyration by the Kegites Club, among other activities.
The funeral service is scheduled to take place at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Owo, on February 23, followed by interment on the same day. A reception will be held at Mydas Hotel and Resort, Ikare Road, Owo, at 1 pm.
The family expressed gratitude to everyone who offered warmth and compassion during this challenging time, acknowledging the outpouring of love and support. The statement conveyed appreciation to those who visited the family in Ibadan and Owo, emphasizing the profound impact of their presence in providing solace and lifting the spirits of the bereaved.
