In a disturbing incident, Chidi Nkire, a man residing in the
Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia
State, has been apprehended by members of
the Abia State Vigilance Group for the alleged defilement of his three underage
children. The shocking ordeal is said to have started after Nkire expelled his
wife from their matrimonial home following a disagreement.
Victor Ogidinta, the secretary of the vigilance group,
provided a detailed account of Nkire’s arrest. Acting on a tip-off from a
concerned citizen, the vigilant members promptly responded on Friday. The
tip-off informed them of Nkire’s despicable actions of defiling his daughters
aged 14, 12, and eight. Arriving at Nkire’s residence in the Obingwa LGA, they
discovered that he had fled to a neighboring village. However, after an
intensive search, he was ultimately captured hiding in a neighboring community
called Osisioma Ngwa local government.
Ogidinta shared, “We received an intelligence report
about an individual engaging in such a heinous act, and we immediately took
action that day. Unfortunately, the man had escaped to a neighboring community,
but we were able to trace him to his hiding place in Osisioma Ngwa local
government. He began these repugnant activities last year after having issues
with their mother, resulting in her expulsion from their marital home. After
their separation, he forcibly had sexual relations with his own children. He
threatened them, even their lives. At one point, he even resorted to starving
them until they agreed to comply with his horrifying demands. The man is
currently cooperating and has not denied any of the acts to this day.”
Following the incident, the case was reported to the local
police station and subsequently transferred to the State Criminal
Investigations Department in Umuahia, Abia State’s capital.
In a distressing video clip that has surfaced, Nkire is seen
confessing to committing the unthinkable act. He attributes his actions to the
influence of the devil and claims that his wife’s unavailability to satisfy his
sexual desires contributed to his wrongdoing. He remorsefully states, “I
did a bad thing; it’s the devil that caused it. I didn’t know that this was how
it would be.”
A reliable source within the Abia State Police Command has
confirmed the case, stating, “It has been reported to the State CID. The
police force is aware, and discreet investigations into the matter have already
commenced.”
This deeply disturbing incident underscores the urgent need
for authorities to take decisive action against such horrific crimes and ensure
the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals, particularly
children.
