Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has taken a swipe at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the defection of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, to the New Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a post shared on X on Thursday, Keyamo acknowledged he was weighing into a matter outside his immediate concern but proceeded to criticise the ADC using a metaphor likening the situation to a failed romantic relationship.
He described a scenario in which a man, unwilling to fully commit, loses a valued partner to another who offers greater assurance, suggesting that the ADC’s inability to guarantee Obi a leading role contributed to his exit.
Keyamo’s remarks portrayed Obi as a sought-after political figure who chose to align with a platform that could better match his ambitions, while casting the ADC as reacting negatively to the departure.
Obi had earlier announced his resignation from the ADC, citing ongoing internal disputes and legal challenges within the party as reasons for his decision.
Political observers note that the move comes amid early realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with speculation that Obi may collaborate with former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is also associated with the NDC.
