The federal government has honoured Miss Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, a 17-year-old student from Yobe State, with a cash award of N200,000 after she emerged as the World’s Best in English Language Skills at the prestigious 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, United Kingdom.
The recognition ceremony, held Thursday in Abuja, was attended by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, who both described Nafisa as “a beacon of excellence and inspiration to Nigerian youths.”
Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Nafisa outperformed over 20,000 contestants from 69 countries—including English-speaking nations—to clinch the global title.
The TeenEagle competition, regarded as one of the world’s most rigorous contests in English proficiency, tests participants’ command of the language, critical thinking, and communication skills.
In his remarks, Dr. Alausa praised Nafisa’s achievement as proof of the country’s untapped potential. He highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s increased investment in education, stressing that Nigeria is prioritizing human capital development more than ever before.
“You are the future of Nigeria, and you have made us proud. For the first time in our history, education has received one of the highest budgetary allocations. Each time we approach the president for support, he says yes—because he believes in you, the children of Nigeria,” the minister said.
Beyond the N200,000 reward, Dr. Alausa also announced additional cash gifts of over N100,000 for Nafisa and other Nigerian students who excelled in different categories of the international competition.
Prof. Ahmad, in her tribute, applauded Nafisa’s resilience and brilliance, saying her triumph proves that Nigerian youths can “stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the world.” She encouraged her to see the victory as only the beginning of a greater journey, while commending her parents and teachers for their roles in her success.
In her response, Nafisa expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu, the ministers, her school, and her family for their encouragement. She dedicated her victory to Nigeria, promising to keep striving for excellence and to inspire other young people.
