The Federal Government has opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering Nigerian postgraduate students the opportunity to pursue studies abroad.
The announcement was made on Monday via a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.
According to information published on the PTDF scholarship portal, the scheme is open to MSc and PhD candidates in fields related to the oil and gas industry, with study destinations including the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Malaysia.
The scholarship package covers tuition fees, return air tickets, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance and bench fees where applicable. PTDF said the initiative is aimed at strengthening local capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector through access to global training and research facilities.
For PhD applicants choosing the United Kingdom, the programme will adopt a split-site arrangement, enabling scholars to conduct research at both the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna, and selected partner universities in the UK, such as Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde and the University of Portsmouth.
PTDF noted that the selection process would be highly competitive, with candidates assessed on academic performance, research proposals, professional affiliations and the relevance of their studies to industry needs.
MSc applicants are required to possess at least a Second Class Lower degree, have completed the National Youth Service Corps programme, be computer literate, and have five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics. PhD candidates must also submit a research proposal of not more than five pages detailing their objectives, methodology and data collection plans.
The agency warned that applicants must have a verified National Identity Number and that multiple submissions or falsified documents would lead to disqualification.
Applications are to be submitted online via scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng, with the deadline set for February 27.
