Lagos, Nigeria — The tech community is reeling from the shocking news of the alleged suicide of Nick Imudia, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nigerian e-commerce giant Konga. Imudia, who was also the CEO of D.light, a prominent company specializing in solar energy solutions, reportedly took his own life on the night of Tuesday, June 25.
Reports indicate that Imudia jumped from the balcony of his apartment in Lekki, Lagos. Prior to this tragic act, he made a series of distressing phone calls. Imudia contacted his brother, who resides in the United States, providing instructions on the distribution of his assets should anything happen to him. He also called his young daughter from a previous relationship, offering her comforting words and telling her to look to the sky to feel his presence.
The news has left Imudia’s friends, family, and colleagues in a state of disbelief. Many are struggling to understand the reasons behind his decision to end his life, as no clear motives have emerged.
Nick Imudia hailed from the Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State. He was previously married to the mother of his daughter, who is also from the same local government area. Their marriage ended due to irreconcilable differences.
Imudia’s professional journey included notable stints prior to his role at Konga. He served as a regional director at TCL/Alcatel and was the General Manager and Managing Director for West and Central Africa at Microsoft Device and Services.
As the community mourns, there is a growing call for more awareness and support around mental health issues, particularly in high-pressure industries like technology and business.
