Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has been officially received into the All Progressives Congress, APC, marking his formal exit from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The governor was welcomed on Friday at the Government House, Port Harcourt, by a delegation led by the state APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, alongside the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo. During the brief ceremony, Fubara completed the APC membership form and other required documentation before being issued the party slip and membership card.
Fubara’s transition to the APC follows his recent resignation from the PDP, a move he said was necessary to align Rivers State with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking at the event, Okocha said he had been directed by the APC National Chairman to officially receive the governor into the party. He commended Fubara’s decision, describing it as timely and strategic.
“I was called by the National Chairman and mandated to present the party membership card to you as a prelude to your official reception,” Okocha said. “We welcome you wholeheartedly and assure you of our full support under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Responding, Governor Fubara said joining the APC was essential to ensuring that Rivers State works in harmony with the federal administration for the sake of development and political stability.
He explained that the decision was also aimed at strengthening the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I took this decision as my own contribution to ensure the President’s reelection in 2027 is seamless in Rivers State,” Fubara said. “Now that we are all in one party, the job is easier.”
The governor pledged to build a stronger APC in the state, assuring the party leadership of his commitment.
“It is my duty from this moment to ensure that the party is properly taken care of. Every need of the Exco and the party becomes my responsibility,” he added.
Fubara vowed to mobilise support across the state, stating that the APC in Rivers would become “the main and active progressive party” as preparations for 2027 begin.
