Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has officially accepted the resignation of Osarodion Ogie from his role as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). Ogie stepped down on August 9, 2024, to focus on his political ambitions, specifically his candidacy as the running mate to Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, in the upcoming September 21 election.
Ogie’s resignation aligns with electoral laws that require political appointees to resign 30 days before an election if they intend to run for office. His resignation was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects.
Governor Obaseki expressed his gratitude to Ogie for his dedication and loyalty over the past seven years, highlighting his significant contributions to the administration’s vision of building a prosperous Edo State. The governor also extended his best wishes to Ogie in his future endeavors and political aspirations.
In the same statement, it was announced that Joseph Eboigbe has been appointed as the new SSG. Eboigbe, who previously served as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Budget and Economic Planning, and later as the Commissioner for Finance, is now tasked with continuing the “Finishing Strong” agenda of Governor Obaseki’s administration. Eboigbe, a seasoned chartered accountant, brings to the role extensive experience, including a 15-year career with Deloitte before entering public service.
Eboigbe’s appointment is effective immediately, as the administration prepares for the final phase of its governance agenda.
