In a testament to resilience and unwavering determination, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State revealed that he successfully navigated 38 legal battles on his path to assuming the gubernatorial role. The governor credited divine ordination for his victory and shared his experiences during a thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel Asaba, specifically commemorating his Supreme Court triumph.
Governor Oborevwori, accompanied by his wife, Deaconess Tobore, Deputy Sir Monday Onyeme and wife Catherine, and former governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa with wife Dame Edith, expressed gratitude during the service. The governor highlighted that his legal journey encompassed victories in all the court cases, ranging from pre-election disputes to post-election challenges, culminating in a favorable ruling by the Supreme Court.
Speaking with humility and appreciation, Governor Oborevwori noted that no other governor in the country had faced a comparable number of legal battles. He acknowledged the support of God and the people of Delta State, pledging to serve as a leader devoted to the welfare of the citizens alongside his deputy, Sir Monday.
“I came to this altar before I went to Abuja for this last judgment. And I said God is not a man that he should lie. I have promised God that every time He gives me victory, I must come here to thank Him,” stated Governor Oborevwori during the thanksgiving service.
The governor emphasized that his triumph was not merely a personal achievement but a victory for the people of Delta State. He recalled the guidance received from the immediate past governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who had prophesied that someone not recognizing the significance of the altar would never ascend to the governorship.
Governor Oborevwori expressed deep gratitude for the redemption he felt and recognized the 38 legal battles as a unique and challenging journey, surpassing even the experiences of governors who had served eight years in office. He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to leadership centered on serving the people and thanked God for the victory that had finally materialized.
