In a bold step toward addressing insecurity, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has introduced the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025, alongside a comprehensive security operation named “Udo Ga-AchË” (Peace Will Reign). This initiative aims to tackle crime head-on and establish Anambra as a model of safety in Nigeria.

Massive Security Deployment and Vigilante Network

Under the new security framework, Governor Soludo has mobilized a 2,000-strong force comprising personnel from various security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, Army, Navy, Civil Defense, Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilante groups.

In addition, the state has established a robust community-based vigilante network known as Agunechemba, tasked with reinforcing security efforts at local government and community levels. The network is expected to serve as the first line of defense, leveraging local knowledge to deter and combat crime.

Cutting-Edge Technology to Enhance Security

The governor also announced the integration of advanced technology to strengthen crime-fighting capabilities. The initiative includes:

  • AI-Powered Surveillance Cameras: Strategically placed across urban and rural areas for real-time monitoring.
  • Tracking Systems: To trace and apprehend criminal elements more efficiently.
  • Command Centers: Serving as hubs for coordinating responses to emergencies and incidents across the state.

“Technology is a game-changer in modern security management, and Anambra is leading the way by adopting innovative solutions,” Soludo stated during the unveiling.

Zero-Tolerance Policy on Crime

The Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025 underscores a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of criminal activity, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism. It combines kinetic measures, such as tactical operations, with non-kinetic strategies, including community engagement and economic empowerment programs, to address the root causes of crime.

“This law and operation are about restoring peace, order, and confidence in Anambra State. We are determined to transform this state into the safest in Nigeria,” Soludo declared.

Stakeholder Engagement and Community Involvement

The governor emphasized the importance of collaboration between security agencies and local communities. “Security is everyone’s responsibility,” he said, urging citizens to report suspicious activities and actively support the government’s efforts to safeguard lives and property.

A Commitment to Sustainable Security

Governor Soludo reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustainable security measures, noting that the operation is designed to adapt to evolving criminal dynamics. He also pledged continuous training and equipping of security personnel to maintain their effectiveness.

Public Reception and Expectations

The initiative has been met with cautious optimism by residents, who have long called for decisive action against rising insecurity. Many expressed hope that the combination of legislation, personnel deployment, and technology will bring lasting peace to Anambra.

As the “Udo Ga-AchË” operation kicks off, all eyes are on Anambra State to see if this comprehensive approach will set a new standard for tackling crime in Nigeria.
