The Non-Indigenes in Lagos Consultative Forum has congratulated Mr Seyi Tinubu on his coronation as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland, describing the traditional title as one that carries profound ancestral meaning, cultural honour and moral responsibility.
In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Hon. Steve S. Oswald, the forum said the title represents more than ceremonial recognition, noting that it is a solemn call to service rooted in the values and traditions of the Yoruba people.
According to the group, traditional honours of such stature demand humility, wisdom, justice and compassion, adding that they come with sacred obligations to humanity and the communities whose heritage they embody.
The forum, which represents the collective interests of Non-Indigenes living and working in Lagos State, reaffirmed the state’s status as Nigeria’s melting pot, where unity in diversity remains a core strength. It called for continued attention to the welfare, safety, inclusion and dignity of Non-Indigenes, whose economic, cultural and social contributions it said remain vital to Lagos’ development.
The group described Tinubu’s emergence as Okanlomo at a relatively young age as a source of hope for inclusive leadership capable of bridging generations, cultures and communities.
It added that the coronation presents an opportunity to promote harmony, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among residents of Lagos and Yorubaland, irrespective of ethnic origin, religion or background.
Expressing confidence in his capacity to uphold the ideals associated with the title, the forum said it believes Tinubu’s tenure would be guided by fairness, empathy, service and advocacy for the common good, while strengthening relations between indigenous communities and Non-Indigenes.
The forum concluded by offering prayers for Tinubu’s good health, long life and divine wisdom, wishing him a reign defined by meaningful service to humanity, respect for tradition and lasting contributions to peace, inclusiveness and national unity.
