The Lagos State Police Command has intensified security across the state, deploying armed officers to schools and public institutions in a renewed effort to prevent kidnappings and violent attacks.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, disclosed the measures on Monday during a press briefing where he also outlined recent achievements in crime prevention.
According to him, the stepped-up security comes amid rising concerns over nationwide incidents of abductions and assaults. Despite the national situation, Jimoh maintained that Lagos remains relatively secure, noting a significant decline in crime rates in recent months.
He revealed that 56 suspects were arrested for various offences over the review period, while police operations led to the recovery of 10 stolen exotic vehicles and a motorcycle.
“Lagos is not facing any extraordinary security challenge. We are firmly in control,” Jimoh said. “Our progress is due not only to police efforts but the cooperation of residents who have continued to support our operations.”
The commissioner added that intelligence-driven raids in November resulted in the seizure of six firearms—including locally made pistols and cut-to-size guns—alongside machetes, a battle axe, an assault dagger, military camouflage, charms, and $4,000 in fake foreign currency.
“These recoveries disrupt criminal networks and boost public safety,” he said.
Jimoh also assured residents and holiday visitors of adequate protection during the festive season. He directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical units to secure worship centres and busy public areas throughout the Yuletide.
