Miss Comfort Emmanson, the passenger at the centre of a controversial altercation with Ibom Air crew, has broken her silence, alleging physical assault, humiliation, and reputational damage in the widely publicised incident.
In a lengthy statement on her Instagram account, @soft_commy, Emmanson recounted how a disagreement with a flight attendant, identified as Julian Edwards, over switching off her mobile phones escalated into a violent confrontation during and after her August 10 flight from Uyo to Lagos.
According to her, Edwards forcefully pulled off her frontal wig, tore her clothing, broke her gold jewelry, and damaged her phones, leaving her in severe pain and humiliation.
“The trauma is just too much. My body is out there, and some people have even used it to make stickers. I don’t even know how I will face clients at work or go for interviews,” she lamented, adding that the incident has badly affected her confidence and reputation.
Emmanson said the dispute began when she struggled to switch off one of her two phones during pre-flight checks. A fellow passenger helped her shut them down, but she claimed the flight attendant reacted harshly, allegedly telling her, “You will see.”
Upon arrival in Lagos, Emmanson alleged she was prevented from disembarking. When she tried to record the situation on her phone, Edwards allegedly attacked her, dragging her frontal wig off, breaking her jewelry, and pushing her to the ground.
“She inflicted so much pain on me. Anyone who has fixed a frontal knows how painful it is, then imagine someone tearing it off forcefully,” Emmanson stated, adding that in self-defense, she poked the attendant’s face after being called a “prostitute.”
She further claimed that other crew members surrounded her and forcefully dragged her, exposing parts of her body in the process. Clips of the confrontation later circulated online, which she says worsened her trauma.
“I was surprised, I never expected that. People are now mocking me, sending me messages that my body is all over social media. This has damaged my image as a young professional in real estate,” she added.
The young woman also expressed gratitude to those who stood by her during the ordeal, saying their support gave her the courage to speak up after weeks of silence.
The management of Ibom Air has yet to issue a formal statement addressing Emmanson’s allegations, though the incident has sparked heated debate on social media, with many Nigerians calling for a transparent investigation.
