Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Thursday conducted a search at the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as investigations into his administration intensify.
The development was made public by his Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, who disclosed in a post on X that the property located on Aso Drive was searched by the anti-graft agency.
The search follows the former governor’s continued detention in Abuja in connection with an ongoing investigation into the management of Kaduna State’s finances during his two-term tenure from 2015 to 2023.
Reacting to the operation, El-Rufai’s counsel, Ubong Akpan, described the action as unlawful and a breach of established legal procedures and fundamental rights. He, however, did not immediately state whether the legal team would challenge the search in court or confirm if any items were seized during the exercise.
The latest action marks another development in the expanding scrutiny of the former governor’s eight-year administration, which has drawn attention from multiple anti-corruption agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over alleged financial misconduct.
As of press time, the ICPC had not issued an official statement regarding the reported search.
