In a thrilling international friendly, teenage striker Endrick scored a dramatic injury-time winner, securing Brazil’s 3-2 victory over Mexico in preparation for the upcoming Copa America. The match took place on Saturday at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas.
Brazil seemed poised for an easy win after taking a 2-0 lead with goals from Fulham’s Andreas Pereira and Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli. Pereira opened the scoring, followed by Martinelli’s strike, giving the South American giants a comfortable advantage.
However, Mexico mounted a surprising late comeback. Julian Quinones cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 73rd minute. Then, in the third minute of stoppage time, Guillermo Martinez equalized, scoring from a rebound off his own header following a corner, making it 2-2.
Just as it appeared the game would end in a draw, Brazil responded swiftly. Vinicius Jr delivered a perfectly timed cross from the left, which Endrick, his new Real Madrid teammate, met with a precise header. The ball sailed past Mexico’s goalkeeper, Julio Gonzalez, clinching the 3-2 victory for Brazil.
This win extends Brazil’s unbeaten streak under new coach Dorival Junior. The team previously achieved a 1-0 win over England at Wembley in March and a 3-3 draw with Spain.
Brazil is set to face the United States in Orlando on Wednesday, marking their final friendly before opening their Copa America campaign against Costa Rica on June 24.
