In a move to bolster economic and military alliances amid Western sanctions, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is scheduled to visit Russia on Thursday, as confirmed by the Kremlin. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, affirmed the Russian-Iranian negotiations on December 7 during a press briefing.
This visit follows previous high-profile interactions between the two nations, with Russian President Vladimir Putin visiting Iran in July of the preceding year. Additionally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov engaged in discussions with regional counterparts in Tehran last October.
Amid the strengthening ties, Western nations have raised concerns, accusing Tehran of supporting Russia’s offensive in Ukraine by allegedly supplying significant quantities of drones and weaponry.
According to Iran’s official news agency Irna, President Raisi’s Moscow visit stems from an invitation extended by President Putin. The one-day trip is expected to encompass discussions on bilateral matters, emphasizing economic interactions. Moreover, the leaders will address regional and international issues, with a particular focus on the situation in Gaza.
