Jonathan Poised for 2027 Comeback as PDP Presidential Candidate — Jerry Gana

Former Minister of Information and Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has declared that former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is poised to reclaim Nigeria’s top office.

Gana made the announcement on Saturday in Minna, shortly after the PDP Niger State Congress, stating that the political landscape and public sentiment now strongly favor Jonathan’s return to Aso Rock.

“In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians,” Gana recalled. “Since then, Nigerians have witnessed two successive administrations — one for eight years and another now in its second year. The difference is clear, and Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Jonathan.”

The former minister spoke confidently, adding, “I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as the PDP candidate, and we must prepare to vote him back into office.”

Gana praised the PDP as a “truly democratic and grassroots-oriented party” that has always allowed Nigerians to freely choose their leaders. He maintained that the party’s popularity remains intact because of its focus on people-centered policies and governance.

Addressing concerns about internal divisions, Gana dismissed talk of ongoing crises, revealing that all disputes had been resolved through a consultative conference convened by the party’s founding fathers in Abuja. “We are now united and fully prepared for the task ahead in 2027,” he said.

He also urged Nigerians to “shine their eyes” and vote out the current administration, which he accused of failing to deliver good governance.

Meanwhile, the Niger State PDP congress concluded with the election of new party executives. Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Halidu emerged as the new state chairman after securing 1,289 votes, narrowly defeating the incumbent Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi (Ability), who polled 1,269 votes.

Other notable winners included Alhaji Khadi Kuta, who was returned unopposed as Secretary, and Mrs. Salome Ndakosu, who clinched the position of Woman Leader with 1,373 votes, defeating Ramotu Jibrin, who garnered 590 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Halidu called for party unity and collective effort, urging members to work together to ensure the return of a “people-oriented government” in 2027.

If confirmed, Jonathan’s comeback bid will mark a dramatic return to the political scene for Nigeria’s 14th president, who led the nation from 2010 to 2015. His re-emergence could reshape the country’s political dynamics and set the stage for a keenly contested 2027 presidential race.
