In a recent deportation effort, Libyan authorities expelled 13 foreign nationals, including seven Nigerians, for violating Libyan laws. The Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) carried out the deportations from the Qanfoudah Immigration Detention Centre, a facility known for holding undocumented migrants and individuals accused of illegal entry or residence within Libya.
The deported group included seven Nigerians, three Bangladeshis, and three Ghanaians. They were flown out of Libya through Benina International Airport in Benghazi, marking another step in the Libyan government’s crackdown on illegal migration.
Migrant Rescue Watch, an organization monitoring migrant issues, confirmed the deportations in a statement on their X (formerly Twitter) account. The organization highlighted that each of these individuals was expelled from Libya for “violating laws in force in the Libyan state.”
The situation sheds light on the persistent challenges faced by migrants in Libya, a country that has become a key transit point for people attempting to reach Europe. Migrant Rescue Watch and similar organizations continue to raise awareness on social media regarding the risks and hardships experienced by those detained or deported.
