Omowunmi Aloba, widow of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has agreed to undergo a DNA test to confirm the paternity of their son, Liam. This decision comes after ongoing tension with Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, regarding the test, a topic that has sparked significant public and family interest since the singer’s passing at age 27 under contentious circumstances.
Following Mohbad’s death, the paternity of his son has been a point of contention, with his father’s legal team initially filing an application seeking a court-ordered DNA test. Attempts to serve Omowunmi the necessary legal documents, however, were reportedly unsuccessful, leading to further complications. The matter was addressed by the Ikorodu Magistrates Court in Lagos, which recommended that both parties consider an alternative dispute resolution process. Despite these efforts, negotiations initially failed to yield an agreement.
A breakthrough was reached when a representative from the family’s legal team, Monisola Odumosu, confirmed that Omowunmi has now consented to the DNA test. The agreement, part of a set of settlement terms agreed upon by both parties, stipulates that the test be conducted in a certified medical facility either within Lagos State or another mutually agreed location outside of the state. Additionally, Mohbad’s father, Mr. Joseph Aloba, has agreed to cover all associated costs for the testing, including fees for sample collection, legal procedures, and any other administrative expenses.
The terms were formally presented to the court, where Emmanuel Oroko, counsel for Mohbad’s father, informed the court of the settlement. The court adopted the terms as part of its judgment, with the parties’ legal representatives, including Kabir Akingbolu, Esq., consenting on behalf of Omowunmi.
As per the agreement, the DNA test will be conducted at a mutually agreed laboratory within Nigeria, with appointed court officers overseeing the process to ensure accuracy and transparency.
