In a recent interview with social media enthusiast Mr LilGaga, Kafayat Adeleke, the mother of Sultan Adeleke, widely known as Eniola, shed light on the reasons behind her child’s choice to disguise as a lady despite being physically challenged.
Adeleke, a 40-year-old mother, spoke passionately about her child’s condition, attributing the deformity to childbirth. She expressed that Eniola’s physical appearance had consistently surprised those who encountered him, prompting questions about his condition.
According to Adeleke, her son has been adopting this disguise since 2018 in Osogbo, and even though he was confronted on several occasions, he would run away from home and return to his chosen identity.
“Sultan was never born a female; he was born with a deformity, and this was one of the reasons why I even like him,” Adeleke explained, highlighting her appreciation for Eniola’s resilience.
She disclosed that he began seeking assistance from the public in Lagos in 2020, assuming a female persona to garner empathy and support. Adeleke shared that Sultan prefers being called Eniola during these interactions.
The mother clarified that she never asked him for money until his story gained widespread attention, receiving monetary support and gifts. To substantiate her claims, she shared pictures depicting Eniola’s deformity since birth and his birth certificate, indicating his birth date as September 23, 2005.
Eniola, in an Instagram Live session, had openly revealed his true gender, explaining that he dressed as a girl to attract public aid since his male identity garnered little attention.
Recently, skit maker and comedian Chukwuebuka Emmanuel, known as Brain Jotter, extended support to Eniola after encountering him on the streets of Lagos. Eniola, who also claims to be a makeup artist, was gifted N400,000 by Brain Jotter.
The video of this encounter went viral, drawing the attention of singer Davido, who urged the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to assist the hawker. The situation sparked controversies online as some netizens claimed that Eniola’s female persona was a deliberate attempt to seek public sympathy and support.
