Following concerns raised over insecurity in Minna, Niger State, the National Examinations Council (NECO) has postponed its staff promotion examination originally scheduled for Thursday and Friday next week.
The decision came after intervention by the House of Representatives, prompted by fears expressed by some individuals regarding the security situation in the region.
In a statement issued by NECO’s acting Director of Information and Digital Communication, Azeez Sani, the organization announced the indefinite postponement of the 2024 Staff Promotion Examination.
“The Management of the National Examinations Council, NECO, has announced the indefinite postponement of the 2024 Staff Promotion Examination earlier scheduled to hold on 14th and 15th February 2024 in Minna, Niger State,” the statement reads.
This action aligns with the directive of the Committee on Basic Examination Bodies of the House of Representatives, as communicated in a letter dated 9th February 2024 and signed by the Committee Chairman, Hon. Oboku Abonsizibe Oforji.
“In compliance with the directive, all NECO Staff who are due for promotion this year should note that the exercise has been put on hold indefinitely,” the statement further emphasized.
The decision reflects NECO’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and security of its staff amid prevailing concerns over the region’s security situation.
