Senator Ned Nwoko has called for his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, to undergo rehabilitation following what he described as “alarming toxicology results” that suggest drug-related health risks.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, Nwoko said the decision was not punitive but aimed at saving his wife’s life and ensuring she remains healthy enough to raise their two young children.
“I want her alive and healthy — not just for me, but for our children,” he stated. “We have two young kids together, and they cannot fight for themselves. I have to safeguard their mother.”
The senator explained that Regina’s behaviour had changed drastically in recent months, becoming “violent and destructive” amid recurring health crises allegedly linked to substance abuse. He claimed that she had been rushed to the hospital unconscious on three separate occasions due to overdoses.
According to him, the toxicology tests revealed high levels of several harmful substances. He insisted that anyone discouraging her from undergoing rehabilitation was “her real enemy and that of her children.”
Nwoko challenged those denying the drug abuse allegations — including Regina’s mother, Rita Daniels, and siblings — to provide independent medical verification. “If they truly believe she’s fine, let them pick any toxicologist, here or abroad. I’ll pay for it,” he said.
The lawmaker accused some of Regina’s siblings, especially her brother Sammy, of enabling her alleged addiction. “Each time progress was made, they sabotaged it by smuggling in the same drugs she was trying to quit,” he alleged.
Reacting to a social media post by Rita Daniels claiming that Nwoko’s late son died of a drug overdose, the senator described the statement as “an inhuman attack,” insisting that no autopsy linked his son’s death to drugs.
The couple’s ongoing marital dispute became public after Regina Daniels accused Nwoko of domestic violence and announced her separation. The senator has since denied the allegations, maintaining that his wife’s behavioural changes stem from substance dependence rather than abuse within the marriage.
He urged the public and family members to “focus on saving her life, not defending lies,” emphasising that rehabilitation remains the only way forward for her recovery and stability.
