The newly elected National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has vowed to lead sweeping reforms within the party, pledging to strengthen internal democracy, promote unity, and resolve long-standing internal disputes.
Speaking during his acceptance speech at the PDP National Convention held on Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State, Turaki acknowledged the enormity of the responsibility before him but expressed optimism that the party would bounce back stronger.
“We are not under any illusion that the task ahead is simple. Our party is at a crossroads, but we are equal to the challenge,” he told delegates, adding that the party must reconnect with its grassroots base to restore confidence ahead of future political engagements.
Turaki announced that the new National Working Committee would soon unveil a comprehensive operational blueprint to guide the party’s activities, emphasizing that implementation would commence immediately.
He also stressed that the PDP must return to its founding ideals.
“Make no mistake—we are returning the party to the people. There will be no more impunity,” he declared.
Turaki won the chairmanship position with 1,516 votes, defeating Senator Yakubu Danmarke, who scored 275 votes in the election held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.
Former Oyo State Deputy Governor, Taofeek Arapaja, also emerged as the newly elected National Secretary, following the official announcement of results by former Senator Ben Obi.
