Nigerian social media celebrity and crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was arrested at the Seme border while attempting to leave Nigeria on Monday, October 21. The arrest occurred during a routine passport check at the Nigeria-Benin Republic border, and new details surrounding the incident have emerged.
According to an immigration source at the border, Bobrisky was detained late at night after authorities flagged his passport. He was reportedly trying to exit the country when an officer spotted his name during passport checks, leading to his immediate apprehension. “He handed his passport to someone else for stamping, but the officer recognized his name among others and asked him to step out of the vehicle,” the source disclosed to Premium Times.
Bobrisky was held in detention overnight and has since been transferred to the Lagos zone of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Ikeja for further questioning. The NIS confirmed his arrest in a statement issued on Monday by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, DCI KT Udo.
The statement clarified that Bobrisky is currently under investigation by several governmental bodies, including a committee of the House of Representatives, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Nigerian Correctional Service. The allegations against him center on bribery and other issues of public concern.
The NIS also elaborated on its role in the arrest, stating, “In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, the Nigeria Immigration Service intercepted Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, otherwise known as Bobrisky, at the Seme Border during an attempt to exit the country. Okuneye is a person of interest in connection with ongoing investigations.”
Bobrisky is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action. The NIS reassured the public of its commitment to professionalism and civility in its role of safeguarding Nigeria’s borders.
