In a week of intensified military operations, Nigerian troops neutralized 135 terrorists, arrested 185 suspects, and rescued 129 kidnapped victims, according to the Defence Headquarters.
Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed the accomplishments during the weekly operational update on Saturday in Abuja. He noted significant progress in the North Central region, where increasing numbers of terrorists have surrendered due to sustained military pressure and collaborative non-kinetic efforts with stakeholders.
“Several terrorist leaders, commanders, and combatants have surrendered, including high-profile figures like Yellow Jambros, Alhaji Mallam, Ardo Idi, and others. More are showing interest in surrendering,” Buba said.
Beyond neutralizing threats, troops seized 113 weapons and over 2,400 rounds of ammunition. Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, hand grenades, rocket-propelled grenade bombs, and a wide range of ammunition types. Vehicles, motorcycles, radios, and mobile phones were also among the recovered assets.
Operations in the Niger Delta region targeted illegal oil refining and theft. Troops destroyed 93 crude oil ovens, 82 illegal refining sites, and seized over 900,000 liters of stolen crude oil alongside other petroleum products.
Maj.-Gen. Buba emphasized that the military remains committed to finding innovative strategies to address security challenges nationwide. “We remain in a winning position in the war,” he said, highlighting the resolve to sustain momentum against criminal activities.
The weekly successes underscore ongoing efforts to restore stability across the nation, with security forces focusing on both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to eliminate threats and foster peace.
