The Northern Senators Forum (NSF), representing the 19 Northern states of Nigeria, has extended warm congratulations to former Military President General Ibrahim Babangida on his 83rd birthday. In a statement issued by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, Chairman of the NSF and representing Katsina Central, the senators praised Babangida’s lasting impact on the nation’s history.
“Happy 83rd birthday to General Ibrahim Babangida, a true statesman and former Head of State of Nigeria!” the statement read. The senators lauded Babangida’s “selfless service” and his visionary leadership, which they noted played a crucial role in promoting true federalism through the creation of 11 new states during his tenure. They credited him with significant national achievements, including the development of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and the construction of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, which was then the longest bridge in Africa.
The NSF acknowledged that Babangida’s contributions to the country’s development are countless, highlighting his efforts in fostering a stronger and more united Nigeria. As they celebrated his legacy, the senators wished him continued good health, long life, and moments of joy with his loved ones.
