The Oshodi-Isolo Local Government in Lagos State has announced plans to rename the iconic Liverpool Road in Oshodi after Seyi Tinubu, son of Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu. This decision is reportedly in recognition of his contributions to youth and community development.
Official Announcement
The council chairman, Kehinde Oloyede, shared the development through a statement released on the local government’s X (formerly Twitter) handle. According to Oloyede, the renaming reflects the council’s appreciation of Seyi Tinubu’s impact on the area.
“All is now set for the renaming of Liverpool Road in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government after the son of Nigeria’s President, Amb. Seyi Tinubu,” the statement read.
Strategic Importance of the Road
Liverpool Road is a significant route in the Oshodi area, connecting the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway to the international airport. The road, previously notorious for criminal activities, has been transformed under the current administration.
Oloyede highlighted the challenges the road once posed, describing it as a “lion’s den” where criminal elements operated freely. He stated that these issues were resolved following his assumption of office, with the road undergoing reconstruction and enhanced security measures.
Upcoming Renaming and Commissioning
One of the chairman’s media aides confirmed that the road renaming will coincide with its commissioning, with a date to be announced soon. “The road is strategic to Oshodi and plays a vital role in linking major infrastructure. Renaming it in Seyi Tinubu’s honor acknowledges his contributions and symbolizes the progress the council has achieved,” the aide said.
Community Impact
The decision to honor Seyi Tinubu has sparked conversations within the community, with many residents acknowledging the transformation of the once-dangerous road. Local leaders have lauded the council for improving infrastructure and enhancing safety in the area.
The renaming ceremony is expected to attract dignitaries and serve as a milestone in the ongoing development efforts of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government.
