In a dramatic incident
that unfolded in Obelle community, located in the Emohua Local Government
Area
of Rivers State, the Rivers State Police Command engaged in a fierce shootout
with a notorious gang of suspected kidnappers. Led by a man named Uchechukwu
Daniel, the gang members found themselves under attack when the police’s
anti-cultism unit raided their hideout.
As the officers
approached the hideout, the criminals, aware of their presence, unleashed a
hail of bullets in a desperate attempt to fend them off. However, the police
officers swiftly retaliated, unleashing a barrage of gunfire that resulted in
the deaths of six of the suspected kidnappers. In addition to the fatalities,
six other members of the gang were apprehended and taken into custody.
Providing details of the
operation, the Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi, addressed the press at the
police headquarters on Moscow Road in Port Harcourt. While acknowledging the
success of the operation, he revealed that some of the miscreants managed to
escape, albeit with bullet wounds.
In a separate incident,
the Commissioner shared another tale of bravery and heroism by his officers.
During a routine patrol along King Perekule Street in GRA, Port Harcourt, the
police intercepted and rescued victims of a reported kidnapping. Acting on a
tip-off, the officers had acted swiftly to locate and liberate the captives.
According to the
victims’ account, the criminals had kidnapped their friend and fled the scene
in a carton-colored Lexus RX 350 after shooting at the victims’ vehicle,
puncturing its tires. As evidence of the crime, the police recovered empty
bullet shells and the victim’s Techno phone.
Continuing with his
report, the Commissioner of Police disclosed that following credible
intelligence, the police operatives successfully trailed some suspected
kidnappers to their hideout in Ozuoha, located in the Ikwerre LGA. They managed
to rescue a victim unharmed and apprehended one of the suspects, a 20-year-old
man named Buchi David.
Meanwhile, in a separate
development, the Chairman of Khana LGA, Dr. Thomas Bari-Ere, also shared a
gripping story with the press. Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Bori
division raided a suspected kidnappers’ camp and made a shocking discovery.
Among the items recovered were a human skull, a pump-action rifle, and two
AK-47 rifles.
Dr. Bari-Ere explained
that they had received intelligence indicating that one of the suspects in
police custody, known as Ojukwu, possessed a location where he stored his
illicit arms and human skulls. These macabre items were allegedly used by
Ojukwu to administer terrifying oaths to his victims, ensuring their silence
regarding his criminal activities. With this vital information, the authorities
swiftly alerted the Bori Police Division, who coordinated with the anti-cultism
unit to carry out the operation, resulting in the successful recovery of the
weapons and the apprehension of the suspects.
These series of events
shed light on the relentless efforts of the Rivers State Police Command to
combat the menace of kidnapping and bring criminals to justice. Their bravery
and dedication to public safety continue to protect the lives and well-being of
the people of Rivers State.
