A prominent campaign billboard supporting President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election has appeared in Abuja’s busy Area One district, stirring conversation among residents and commuters. The billboard, featuring images of Tinubu and his wife, Senator Remi Tinubu, bears the message: “Grassroots support for Tinubu 2027, the 1019 Initiative.”
The advertisement has sparked curiosity and speculation, especially since President Tinubu has not yet officially declared his intention to run for a second term. While the billboard suggests early grassroots mobilization for his re-election campaign, the president has remained silent on any formal plans to seek re-election.
Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, after a hotly contested election, fulfilling his long-standing ambition to become Nigeria’s leader. His presidency has been marked by controversial reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies and the liberalization of the naira, which have sparked economic hardship for many citizens. These policies have fueled frustration, culminating in the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests held from August 1 to 10.
Despite the mixed reactions to his leadership, the billboard indicates that some supporters are already rallying for his return in 2027. Calls and messages to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, seeking clarification about the billboard, went unanswered as of the time of this report.
