The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed allegations that its General Overseer, Enoch Adejare Adeboye, campaigned for any government in power, reaffirming that the respected cleric has consistently maintained neutrality in partisan politics.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the church said Pastor Adeboye has never endorsed any political party or candidate, but has repeatedly encouraged Christians to participate in the democratic process by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and voting according to their convictions.
RCCG also addressed claims that the cleric halted a planned protest, clarifying that he merely relayed a directive from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria concerning modifications to a three-day prayer programme and rally.
According to the church, the decision to hold the grand finale of the prayer event at a central venue and organize a rally around the location originated from PFN and was communicated to all member churches nationwide.
The church further rejected suggestions that Pastor Adeboye has remained silent on critical national issues, noting that he has frequently spoken on matters such as insecurity, corruption, economic challenges, governance, elections, and the need for ethical leadership.
RCCG stated that the cleric’s interventions have largely been expressed through prayers, moral guidance, and counsel rather than partisan political engagement.
“Pastor Adeboye and RCCG will not be defined by falsehoods, nor will the church remain silent while inaccurate narratives are repeatedly presented as facts,” the statement said.
The church urged journalists, bloggers, commentators, and members of the public to verify information relating to Pastor Adeboye and RCCG through official communication channels before publication.
It stressed that any claim not communicated, verified, or endorsed through RCCG’s official platforms should not be regarded as the church’s official position.
The statement comes amid ongoing public discussions surrounding the role of religious leaders in national affairs and political discourse, with RCCG reiterating its commitment to spiritual leadership while maintaining neutrality in partisan politics.
