The legal community mourns the loss of retired Justice Ahmad Olanrewaju Belgore, a distinguished former Justice of the Court of Appeal, who passed away recently.
The sad news was announced by Kamaldeen Gambari, Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Ilorin Branch, Kwara State, who conveyed the information via a social media post. Justice Belgore’s passing was confirmed on Tuesday, prompting an outpouring of condolences from colleagues, friends, and the legal fraternity.
Belgore retired from his illustrious career as a Justice of the Court of Appeal on April 18, 2023, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70. His contributions to the judiciary, both nationally and internationally, were widely recognized, earning him respect and admiration throughout his distinguished career.
In a condolence message, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, expressed deep sorrow over Justice Belgore’s demise. The Emir described him as a paragon of integrity and a shining example of judicial excellence, highlighting his significant contributions to the Ilorin Emirate and the nation as a whole.
“This is a significant and heartbreaking loss for the Ilorin Emirate and humanity in general,” the Emir stated through his spokesperson, Abdulazeez Arowona. “Justice Ahmad Belgore was a true gentleman and an outstanding judicial officer who served our nation with distinction. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”
