In a recent interview with AIT, Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara expressed his willingness to relinquish his office if it meant ensuring lasting peace in the state. Governor Fubara emphasized that no sacrifice would be too great for him to make for the success of his administration, driven by his genuine love and concern for the well-being of Rivers State and its people. He clarified that his concern stemmed from the welfare of millions of Rivers residents who had invested their hopes and aspirations in the state’s progress, rather than personal political ambitions. Fubara emphasized, “If stepping down from this position is what is necessary to bring more peace to our state, I am willing to do so. It’s not about me. People should understand that while I am here now, I will eventually leave, but Rivers State will endure.” The governor underscored the importance of maturity in leadership, highlighting his commitment to exercising restraint even in the face of crisis, demonstrating a resolve to prioritize the state’s stability and well-being above all else.
