Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central) has invited Senate President Godswill Akpabio and fellow lawmakers to the official unveiling of her constituency projects in Kogi State, marking a possible reconciliation following months of political tension.

The invitation, contained in a letter personally signed by Akpoti-Uduaghan, was read aloud by Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session. It represents the first public gesture of goodwill between the two since her six-month suspension earlier this year.

“In marking my second year anniversary as serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite fellow distinguished senators to join me for projects inauguration in Kogi State,” the letter read in part.

The event is scheduled for Sunday in Ihima, Okene Local Government Area, with lawmakers expected to converge at her residence on Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street. For those arriving by air, she advised that the Obajana airstrip could be used before proceeding to Ihima by road.

Reacting after reading the letter, Akpabio offered warm congratulations to his Kogi counterpart, saying, “Congratulations in advance.” His response drew mild applause from colleagues, signaling an easing of tensions within the chamber.

The gesture comes months after a public fallout between both senators. Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended on March 6, 2025, following a heated confrontation with Akpabio over her seating position during plenary. Her protest — which involved a dramatic walkout — led to charges of “gross misconduct.”

She accused Akpabio of “dictatorial leadership” of the Senate, while the Senate President maintained that her behavior violated parliamentary order. Though her suspension technically expired in September, she only regained full access to her office two weeks ago after legal tussles and procedural delays.

Since returning, the outspoken senator has gradually resumed active participation in Senate proceedings, including contributing to the recent Criminal Code (Amendment) Bill 2025 debate.

Political observers see her invitation to Akpabio as both a conciliatory gesture and a strategic effort to rebuild alliances ahead of the next legislative phase.

“The senator’s outreach marks a new tone — one of diplomacy rather than defiance,” said a senior National Assembly aide who requested anonymity. “It’s a clear signal that Natasha is ready to turn the page.”
