Nigerian fintech giant Paystack has dismissed its Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following public allegations that he engaged in inappropriate sexual relations with a junior employee.
Olubi confirmed his termination in a blog post on Saturday, November 23, 2025, revealing that the company ended his contract before completing its internal investigation. The controversy erupted earlier in the month after a social media user accused Olubi of abusive conduct, prompting widespread circulation of explicit tweets he posted between 2009 and 2013.
Paystack had initially announced Olubi’s suspension and the launch of a formal inquiry, stating that it planned to appoint an independent investigator. However, Olubi said he was dismissed without being granted a meeting or the opportunity to respond to the allegations, a move he claims violates the terms of his suspension and the company’s own policies.
“My legal team is now reviewing the process that led to my purported termination, including its consistency with internal policies,” he wrote, adding that legal steps may follow.
The situation has intensified scrutiny on workplace culture within Africa’s rapidly expanding tech industry, which has recently witnessed several high-profile cases of alleged misconduct.
Paystack, acquired by global payments company Stripe in 2020, has not issued a new statement since Olubi’s disclosure, and it remains unclear whether its parent company will weigh in. Any further legal action could bring new details to light, potentially shaping broader discussions about governance and accountability in the sector.
