In a display of unity and optimism for the year ahead, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, 13 state governors, and key lawmakers paid a New Year homage to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Wednesday. The president hosted the gathering while celebrating the festive season in the nation’s commercial capital.
Governors in attendance included Abba Yusuf (Kano), Sherriff Oborevwori (Delta), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), and Babagana Zulum (Borno).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele also joined the delegation.
Shettima Speaks on Economic Recovery
Addressing the gathering, Vice-President Shettima shared an optimistic outlook on the nation’s economy, highlighting recent signs of recovery and progress.
“I am confident that 2025 will bring about substantial economic activities and improvements to the lives of citizens,” Shettima said.
“I believe we have turned the corner. The economy has started picking up, and in the coming weeks and months, Nigerians will start smiling for the better.”
He acknowledged the global economic challenges, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, but assured Nigerians that the administration is working tirelessly to stabilize the economy.
“We are working assiduously with the national assembly to come up with robust solutions to our national challenges,” Shettima added.
“By the grace of God, we have crossed the rubicon, and we are on a path to sustained growth. We wish Nigerians well.”

Senate President Akpabio echoed the vice-president’s sentiments, reaffirming the legislature’s commitment to collaborating with the executive arm to deliver policies that drive national growth and improve the standard of living for all Nigerians.
