
Today, March 11, 2024, marks the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan, as declared by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar. As the spiritual leader of Muslims in Nigeria, the Sultan announced the beginning of Ramadan following the sighting of the moon in various parts of the country on Sunday, signaling the end of the Month of Shaban.
Addressing the Muslim community, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar emphasized the significance of the sighting, affirming the acceptance of the moon sighting reports from Muslim leaders nationwide. Encouraging adherence to Islamic teachings, he urged Muslims across the country to commence fasting today in accordance with the principles of Islam.
In light of prevailing challenges, particularly insecurity, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar called upon Muslims to dedicate their prayers during Ramadan towards combating the spread of insecurity in the nation. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of supplicating for leaders, urging Muslims to pray for their leaders to discharge their duties with integrity and reverence for God.
Furthermore, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar advised all Muslims to observe the fast with a profound sense of piety and devotion, reminding the affluent to extend their generosity to the less fortunate by providing food and assistance during the Holy month.
As Muslims embark on this sacred period of fasting and spiritual reflection, the call for prayer against insecurity and hardship resonates as a crucial component of Ramadan observance, fostering unity, compassion, and hope within the Muslim community and beyond.
