Starting from midnight on Sunday, February 18, until midnight on Monday, February 19, the Third Mainland Bridge will be closed to traffic bound from Iyana Oworonshoki to Lagos Island. This announcement came from Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, on Saturday.

The closure aims to facilitate critical repairs required on a specific section of the bridge. Mrs. Kesha emphasized that motorists traveling from the Island towards Oworonshoki would continue to have unrestricted access to the bridge throughout the entire 24-hour closure period.

“The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, wishes to inform the motoring public that the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos will not be available for 24 hours for motorists from Iyana Oworonshoki to Lagos Island bound,” stated Mrs. Kesha. “Traffic will resume on Monday at 12.00 a.m. on this route. However, motorists coming out of the Island and heading towards Oworonshoki will have full access throughout the 24-hour closure.”

She clarified that the temporary closure of the Iyana Oworonshoki to Adeniji Adele bound traffic is essential to facilitate effective repairs on a crucial section of the bridge.

Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes, adhere to instructions from traffic authorities, and display patience with government officials during the 24-hour closure period for repairs. Alternative routes suggested during the repair period include Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams Avenue-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS, Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Jibowu-Yaba-Oyingbo-Iddo-Carter bridge-CMS, and Gbagada-Anthony-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS.
