President Bola Tinubu has approved fresh leadership changes in Nigeria’s energy sector, appointing Professor Shu’aib Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) while renewing the tenure of the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Aliyu takes over from Ahmed Aminu, who stepped down from the role to pursue his political ambition ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State. His appointment takes immediate effect.
In a statement released on Thursday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the new PTDF boss was described as a seasoned academic and administrator with a strong background in research and institutional leadership.
The presidency said Aliyu’s appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s petroleum sector and enhancing capacity development within the industry. He is expected to drive innovation, support human capital development, and reposition the PTDF to better align with national energy priorities.
Meanwhile, the President also approved a second and final term for Sule Abdulaziz as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
According to the statement, the decision followed a performance review that highlighted improvements in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and ongoing system modernisation under Abdulaziz’s leadership. His tenure has also been credited with advancing regional electricity integration efforts through the West African Power Pool.
President Tinubu urged both appointees to carry out their responsibilities with diligence and integrity, in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
