President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wasted no time in making his mark
after being sworn into office as the
new President. Shortly after the formal
handover ceremony from former President Muhammadu Buhari at the Eagles Square
in Abuja, President Tinubu swiftly made his first appointments.
One of the key appointments made by President Tinubu was that
of Victor Adekunle Adeleke, who was named as the State Chief of Protocol
(SCOP). Adeleke, hailing from Oyo State, commenced his duties immediately after
his appointment. He brings to the position a wealth of experience as an
accomplished diplomat and lawyer.
Adeleke’s journey in the Nigerian Foreign Service began in
1993, and since then, he has excelled in various capacities, both domestically
and internationally. He has served in different missions abroad and at the
Headquarters, including the State House. His colleagues have recognized his
exceptional skills, and his appointment as SCOP is considered well-deserved,
taking over from Ambassador Lawal Kazuare.
The new SCOP’s impressive career includes his most recent
role as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and
Ambassador to Ethiopia. During his tenure, he exhibited distinction and
represented the country with great honor. His extensive background as a career
Foreign Service Officer positions him well to bring about significant changes
and improvements in diplomatic protocol within the Presidential Villa.
Born in 1967 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Ambassador Adeleke
graduated from the esteemed Obafemi Awolowo University, lle-Ife, with a Bachelor
of Laws degree (with Honors) in June 1990. He subsequently pursued professional
training at the Nigerian Law School, located in Victoria Island, Lagos. Having
fulfilled all the requirements prescribed by law, he was called to the Bar as a
Barrister and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1991.
President Tinubu’s other appointments included the selection
of Dele Alake, a former Lagos State Commissioner of Information, as the
Presidential Spokesman. Additionally, Olusegun Dada was chosen as the Special
Adviser for Digital Media. These appointments highlight President Tinubu’s
commitment to assembling a team of capable individuals who possess the
expertise and skills necessary to support his administration and effectively
communicate its agenda to the public.
