In a devastating incident early Thursday morning, a building collapse in Ibadan’s Jegede Olunloyo area of Ona Ara Local Government claimed the lives of 10 people, while seven others were injured. The Oyo State Fire Services Agency confirmed the tragic news, noting that the collapse occurred around 2 a.m.
The agency reported that, upon receiving a distress call from local residents, rescue teams quickly mobilized to the scene. A statement from the agency read, “The Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distress call at around 2 a.m. at Jegede Olunloyo area, Ibadan, and has since recovered 10 individuals from the debris. Seven people were rescued alive, and efforts are ongoing.”
Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services, elaborated on the situation, stating that first responders found that three victims had already been retrieved by neighbors before the agency arrived.
Local authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the collapse. Meanwhile, emergency responders, including the state fire service and local agencies, remain at the scene, working diligently to locate any potential survivors and secure the site.
