Trump’s Incoming Chief of Staff Susie Wiles Sets Strict Tone for White House Staff

With just two weeks to go before Donald Trump’s inauguration, the president-elect’s incoming Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, is making it clear that discipline and teamwork will be the cornerstones of the new White House. In a no-nonsense interview with Axios journalist Mark Caputo, Wiles outlined her vision for how the West Wing will operate under her watch.

“I don’t welcome people who want to work solo or be a star,” Wiles said, setting the tone for a collaborative and focused approach to governance. Her message was aimed at the incoming White House staff, signaling that the Trump administration will prioritize collective success over individual ambition.

Wiles, 67, played a pivotal role in Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign as co-campaign manager. The campaign’s success was attributed not only to Trump’s unconventional style but also to the discipline and structure Wiles brought to the team. Recognizing her effectiveness, Trump chose her to bring the same order and efficiency to the White House.

During his Election Night victory speech, Trump acknowledged Wiles’s behind-the-scenes influence, even bestowing her with an intimidating nickname. “Susie likes to stay sort of in the back, let me tell you!” Trump told his supporters. “The Ice Maiden. We call her the Ice Maiden.”

Wiles’s leadership style is rooted in hard work, collaboration, and a commitment to shared goals. She made it clear that Trump himself will set the administration’s agenda, and anyone who cannot align with that vision will not have a place in the West Wing.

“The West Wing staff is a mix of new and veterans — many are young, all are prepared to work punishing hours,” Wiles said. “To my core, I believe in teamwork. Anyone who cannot be counted on to be collaborative and focused on our shared goals isn’t working in the West Wing.”

Emphasizing the importance of mutual support, Wiles added, “I cannot stress teamwork and mutual support enough. It’s not magic — set goals and timelines for me and the team and then work to exceed them. Simple, yes, but this worked quite nicely on the campaign.”

Wiles also warned incoming staffers to brace for long hours and a demanding workload. “Success will depend on getting off to a quick start and staying on that pace, together with an expectation of excellence every day,” she said.

Her focus on hiring “competent and loyal” staffers underscores her priority of building a strong, unified team. Wiles believes that loyalty and dedication are essential to achieving the administration’s goals.

Trump’s policy priorities, according to Wiles, will focus on reducing regulations, cutting taxes, eliminating government waste, securing the border, and deporting illegal immigrants. These core issues will drive the administration’s agenda from Day One.

The broader Trump coalition, which includes figures such as Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Democrats like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard, reflects a diverse mix of ideologies. Each member brings a unique perspective and expertise to the administration.

For Wiles, her key contribution is establishing a disciplined culture within the White House. Her emphasis on teamwork and accountability sets a clear expectation for how the new administration will operate.

Trump’s decision to appoint Wiles as his chief of staff underscores his appreciation for her no-nonsense leadership. Her role as the “Ice Maiden” suggests that the new White House will be run with precision and focus, leaving the legendary improvisations and theatrics to the president himself.

As the administration prepares to take office, Wiles’s strict approach to managing the West Wing staff is already shaping the expectations for how the Trump White House will function. It remains to be seen how the “Ice Maiden”’s discipline will translate into governance, but one thing is certain: the new White House staff will need to work hard, work together, and keep their eyes on Trump’s ambitious goals.
