The Federal Government has firmly dismissed allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria, describing the claims as false, misleading, and harmful to the nation’s global image.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, called for the unedited release of his recent interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, warning that selective editing could distort facts and fuel false narratives about religious persecution. Tuggar stressed that his responses during the interview were backed by verifiable data and reflected Nigeria’s true position on religious freedom.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, echoed the stance, stating that Nigeria remains a country with guaranteed freedom of worship, where no group is targeted on the basis of faith.
Their statements came as the African Union also affirmed that no genocide was occurring in Nigeria’s northern region, countering allegations by U.S. President Donald Trump, who had threatened military intervention if the federal government failed to address killings by terrorists and bandits.
Tuggar, writing on X on Wednesday, said he joined Piers Morgan’s programme to provide a factual, balanced context to the accusations. He insisted that transparency demands the full, unaltered broadcast of his interview.
“My explanations, supported by verifiable data, may not have aligned with certain preconceived views,” he wrote. “But for the sake of integrity, the full interview must be aired exactly as recorded. Nigeria’s truth must not be distorted to fit external biases.”
