Donald Trump has said American military forces will remain deployed in and around Iran until a comprehensive agreement is reached, as Washington navigates a fragile ceasefire with Tehran.
In a statement posted late Wednesday, Trump emphasized that U.S. ships, aircraft, and personnel would stay in position with full military capability until what he described as a “real agreement” is finalized and fully implemented. He added that while a deal was likely, failure to reach one could trigger even stronger military action.
The announcement comes amid a delicate two-week truce between the United States and Iran, which has already shown signs of strain. Reports of renewed military activity involving Israel and Lebanon have raised concerns about the ceasefire’s durability, while disagreements persist over key conditions for ending hostilities.
A central issue in the negotiations remains control and access to the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global النفط route through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes. Iran has agreed to keep the passage open during the truce but insists on maintaining authority over it.
Tehran has also pushed for recognition of its uranium enrichment programme, a demand that has not been fully acknowledged by Washington. Trump, however, reiterated that Iran would not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons, suggesting that the issue would be addressed in any final agreement.
With talks expected to take place in Pakistan, the situation remains fluid, as both sides weigh diplomatic progress against the risk of renewed escalation.
