Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Davos, Switzerland, to participate in the 2025 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). The high-profile event gathers global leaders, business executives, and development partners to tackle pressing economic challenges and craft strategies for sustainable global growth.
Strategic Focus on Africa
According to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Shettima’s agenda in Davos includes a series of bilateral meetings and workshops aimed at promoting Nigeria’s economic potential and fostering solutions to global risks.
One of the key highlights is a workshop titled “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets”, organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with the WEF. The session is designed to explore ways to drive capital inflows into Africa to support inclusive development and resilience across the continent.
Launch of HRI Roadmap for Africa
A major highlight of Shettima’s visit will be the launch of the Humanitarian and Resilience Investing (HRI) Roadmap for Africa, a collaborative initiative by the AfDB and other partners. The roadmap aims to attract private-sector investments into Africa’s emerging markets while fostering public-private partnerships to accelerate growth and resilience.
Key Forums and Panels
The Vice President is slated to co-chair a forum on “Turning Digital Trade into a Catalyst for Growth in Africa” at the Pischa Congress Centre. This session will examine how the private sector can accelerate the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade Protocol, which was adopted by African Union leaders in January 2024.
Shettima will also participate as a panellist in the “Global Risks 2025” session at the Aspen 2 Congress Centre. This dialogue will delve into critical geopolitical, technological, and environmental risks influencing the global landscape.
Networking and High-Level Engagements
The Vice President’s itinerary includes attending the Annual Meeting 2025 Crystal Awards Dinner at Kurpark Village, Eiger. This exclusive event is expected to bring together Heads of State, government officials, and international organizations to celebrate outstanding contributions to global development.
Driving Nigeria’s Economic Agenda
Shettima’s presence at the WEF underscores Nigeria’s commitment to engaging with global stakeholders to address pressing economic challenges, attract investments, and strengthen resilience in Africa. His participation aligns with the Nigerian government’s broader strategy to position the country as a hub for innovation, trade, and sustainable development.
The Vice President is expected to return to Abuja upon the conclusion of his engagements in Davos.
