Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Wednesday for Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to participate in the opening ceremony of the International Exhibition of Extractive and Energy Resources 2024 (SIREXE 2024). The high-profile event, hosted at the Abidjan Exhibition Centre, runs from November 27 to December 2, 2024.
Shettima is attending the event at the invitation of Côte d’Ivoire’s Vice President, Tiémoko Meyliet Koné. The Vice President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Stanley Nkwocha, confirmed the trip in a statement titled ‘VP Shettima Leaves for Abidjan, To Attend SIREXE 2024 Opening Ceremony.’
SIREXE 2024 is an internationally recognized conference organized by the Government of Côte d’Ivoire to spotlight policies and strategies for the sustainable development of extractive and energy industries. Leaders, experts, and stakeholders from across the globe are convening to discuss pressing issues and share innovative solutions for advancing sustainability in these critical sectors.
Vice President Shettima will represent Nigeria’s interests at the event and highlight the country’s extensive experience in hydrocarbon exploration and production. “The Vice President will utilize the platform to share Nigeria’s success stories, challenges, and strategic advancements in the oil and gas sector,” Nkwocha stated.
This visit underscores Nigeria’s active engagement in global energy conversations, particularly in the context of transitioning to sustainable practices within the extractive industries. It also reaffirms Nigeria’s commitment to fostering regional and international collaborations in energy and resource management.
Shettima is expected to return to Abuja later on Wednesday after fulfilling his engagements in Côte d’Ivoire.
